What’s the Difference Between Red Nose and Blue Nose Pitbulls?

There are very few differences between Blue Nose and Red Nose Pitbulls, but these aspects will help you determine which dog is best for you.

Red Nose vs Blue Nose Pitbulls: Physical Appearance

Red Nose Pitbulls are some of the biggest Pitbulls. Females weigh between 30 and 50 pounds, while males can weigh between 35 and 60 pounds. This breed is a medium-sized dog, and the females can grow to 17 to 20 inches tall, while males are typically 18 to 21 inches tall.

These Pitbulls have very distinguished, muscular appearances. They have sharp jawlines, chiseled heads, strong necks, and broad chests. Their coats are short, fine, and smooth, and owners love that they are easy to groom.

Blue Nose Pitbulls have the same average height and weight as Red Nose Pitbulls. Like Red Nose Pitbulls, their build is stocky and muscular. They have broad faces, chiseled muscles, and bulky bodies.

Their coats are short and usually single-tone. Occasionally, you may find a Blue Nose Pitbull with stripes or spots.

Neither Red Nose Pitbulls nor Blue Nose Pitbulls are hypoallergenic. Both types shed, but Blue Nose Pitbulls do so more frequently. They shed all year, while Red Nose Pitbulls shed only twice yearly. Luckily, their hair is short and rarely visible on your furniture.

Pitbull Blue Nose vs Red Nose: Coloring

Both Red Nose and Blue Nose Pitbulls have unique coloring across most of their bodies. Most Red Nose Pitbulls have red, brown, or copper colors on their lips, fur, nose, toenails, and fur. They also have scattered white fur, mostly on their chests and toes.

Blue Nose Pitbulls have blue fur, eyes, skin, toenails, and noses. On rare occasions, they may have white fur on their chests, between their eyes, on their feet, or under their noses. Some even have light gray eyes, rather than blue.

Pitbull Red Nose vs Blue Nose: Health Conditions and Basic Care

With an average lifespan of 14 years, Red Nose Pitbulls are some of the healthiest dogs on the planet. Some may even live to be 16 years old.

On the other hand, the lifespan of Blue Nose Pitbulls depends largely on the breeding process. Many breeders resort to inbreeding to ensure these Pitbulls have a blue coloring. Thus, their average life expectancy spans anywhere from 10 to 15 years.

Common Health Conditions for Blue Nose Pitbull vs Rednose Pitbull

Although Red Nose Pitbulls are healthy dogs, they are often affected by joint problems. Their heavy frame places stress on their joints and can lead to loss of function in the legs. Like most Pitbulls, these dogs are also subject to skin conditions.

Additionally, these Pitbulls may experience retinal degeneration, which leads to blindness, hip dysplasia, kneecap dislocation, and degenerative myelopathy, which causes limb weakness and paralysis.

Blue Nose Pitbulls often face more health concerns. They are more likely to have skin diseases and allergies. Mange is also common, which is caused by mites.

They may also develop the genetic condition of ichthyosis or complications from thyroid problems that lead to skin irritation.

These Pitbulls can also suffer from hair loss known as alopecia, immune disorders, hip dysplasia, deafness, cataracts, hypothyroidism, and heart disease. Ear infections can also arise if owners do not clean their dogs’ ears.

How To Keep a Red Nose Pitbull vs Bluenose Pitbull Healthy

One of the most important aspects of caring for a Pitbull is keeping him fit. Maintaining a healthy weight decreases the chances a dog will experience joint problems. These Pitbulls should spend an hour exercising daily. This workout should include mental stimulation.

Like many dogs, Pitbulls can become destructive or aggressive when their exercise needs are not met. They often enjoy working out with their owners, hiking, and water sports

Red Nose and Blue Nose Pitbulls require diets that are between 15 and 30% protein. Owners should not provide extra food to fuel their dogs’ active lifestyles. Instead, this extra protein will keep them going without causing obesity.

Luckily, both types of Pitbulls have low grooming requirements. Owners should brush their Red Nose Pitbulls daily, but they will only have to bathe their dogs once a month.

They must wash the area around the eyes to prevent infection during baths. Red Nose Pitbulls should also have their teeth brushed or use a chewable dental stick daily.

Owners of Blue Nose Pitbulls do not need to worry about tangled or matted fur because the dogs’ coats are so short. These dogs will require coat trims and brushing a few times every week.

Owners of both types of Pitbulls should use a gentle shampoo at bathtime to decrease the likelihood of skin irritation.

Red Nose vs Blue Nose Pit: Prices

The prices of Red and Blue Nose Pitbulls depend mostly on their popularity at the time. In most cases, both types of Pitbull cost between $500 and $2,500.

Pitbulls often end up in shelters because their owners did not spend the necessary time on obedience training. If you adopt a Red or Blue Nose Pitbull from a shelter, you will spend far less money than a breeder would charge.

Breeders, however, often claim that these Pitbulls are rare and unique and will use these claims to charge more for their puppies. Other breeders charge more for their puppies to continue providing the best care for their breed of choice.

Blue Nose vs Red Nose Pitbull: Personality Traits

Like most Pitbulls, Red and Blue Nose Pitbulls can make great companions.

Caring owners who provide their dogs with obedience training, plenty of time exercising, and prioritize preventative medical care will be rewarded with loyalty and love. Many owners find their Pitbull refuses to leave their sides.

These dogs are intelligent and eager to please, which simplifies the training process. They thrive when their days are full of physical activity and bond with their owners when working out together.

It is best to adopt a Pitbull after gaining experience training larger dogs. Red Nose Pitbulls are intelligent and eager to please, so they are easier to train.

Although Blue Nose Pitbulls are smart, they can also be stubborn and do not respond well to harsh training methods, which can be challenging for new owners.

Gentle and Playful

Contrary to popular belief, Pitbulls are not aggressive by nature. Unfortunately, people bred Pitbulls to exploit their aggressive tendencies for decades. They were often used in animal sports, such as dog fighting. However, Pitbulls who have been trained properly are not aggressive dogs.

In reality, Red and Blue Nose Pitbulls are gentle and even great with children. They are also extremely friendly and attention-seeking. Many even believe themselves to be lap dogs and enjoy cuddles.

Pitbulls prefer people over other pets, and it can be difficult for them to coexist with other animals. It is typically best to keep them away from dog parks because their prey drive can be more powerful than obedience training.

Owners often rave about Pitbulls’ big personalities. They are playful, goofy, and love to interact. Many have expressive faces which allow them to communicate with their owners on a higher level than most dogs.

Are Blue Nosed and Red Nosed Pitbulls Really Different Breeds?

Blue Nosed and Red Nosed Pitbulls are not different breeds but variations of the more common Pitbull. There are only a handful of differences between the two.

Genetics determine whether each American Pit Bull Terrier will have unique coloring. Both parents must contribute a recessive gene known as Old Family Red Strain for the puppy to be a Red Nose Pitbull.

Like the Old Family Red Strain gene, the gene that causes blue coloring in Blue Nose Pitbulls is recessive. This gene is known as eumelanin, and it must be passed onto the puppy by both parents.

Thus, Blue Nose and Red Nose Pitbulls are the same as any other Pitbull aside from one pair of genes.

Which Breed Is Right for You?

Red Nose and Blue Nose Pitbulls have the same personality traits. However, the difference between a Red Nose and Blue Nose Pitbull revolves around color, health conditions, training, and price.

The most obvious difference is physical appearance. If you prefer dogs with red-tinted fur and noses, the Red Nose Pitbull may be best for you. However, owners who prefer the gray-blue tint will be more pleased with a Blue Nose Pitbull.

Potential owners of Blue Nose Pitbulls should prepare for higher vet bills. Due to problematic breeding over the years, Blue Nose Pitbulls are at risk of more frequent and more severe health conditions.

Health, Training and Prices

Owners should be aware of signs of severe illnesses and keep an eye on their Pitbulls to catch complications early.

On the other hand, Red Nose Pitbulls are very healthy dogs. There are certain health concerns, especially leg lameness and hip dysplasia, but they have fewer health complications than Blue Nose Pitbulls.

A Red Nose Pitbull may be best for you if you are concerned about paying repetitive vet bills.

Training a Red Nose or Blue Nose Pitbull is similar but not identical. Both types of Pitbulls are intelligent and very capable of responding well to obedience training. However, while Red Nose Pitbulls are eager to please, Blue Nose Pitbulls are stubborn.

Thus, owners who do not have much patience or time for obedience training may benefit more from adopting a Red Nose Pitbull.

Finally, the prices of Red Nose and Blue Nose Pitbulls are different. Their prices fluctuate based on their popularity at the time. It is best to check the current prices before making a decision.
